On June 30th, the desert highway connecting Yuli County and Qiemo County in Xinjiang was officially opened to traffic. During the construction of this highway, Beidou effectively assisted workers in safe construction.
Due to the highway being located in the Taklamakan Desert, with harsh environment, high temperature, and high construction risk, sand dunes move in windy and dusty weather, and changes in location make it easy for workers to get lost due to the loss of reference objects. Therefore, the construction site equipped everyone with a positioning terminal based on the Beidou system to ensure that construction personnel can obtain accurate location information in extreme environments and not get lost in the desert, thus achieving the goal of safe construction. During the construction process, there was not a single case of casualty.
It is understood that the desert highway connecting Yuli County and Qiemo County in Xinjiang is 334 kilometers long, making it the third highway to traverse the Taklamakan Desert, following the Tarim Desert Highway and the Aral-Hotan Highway. So far, China has built over 1,200 kilometers of "desert highways" in the Taklamakan Desert.
