2.Indications and Usage
Doxycycline is a tetracycline-class antibacterial indicated for:
| Rickettsial Infections |
Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus group, Q fever. |
| Sexually Transmitted Infection |
Uncomplicated urethral, endocervical, or rectal infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis; uncomplicated gonorrhea; lymphogranuloma venereum. |
| Respiratory Tract Infections |
Pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae; treatment of Haemophilus influenzae or Streptococcus pneumoniae (when susceptibility testing indicates appropriate use). |
| Specific Bacterial Infections |
Anthrax (including inhalational anthrax, post-exposure), cholera, plague, tularemia. |
| Ophthalmic Infections |
Trachoma. |
| Dermatologic Infections |
Severe acne. |

Malaria prophylaxis (for short-term travel to areas with chloroquine and/or pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine resistant strains). |
Note: Doxycycline is indicated when susceptibility testing proves the causative organism is
susceptible. It is not the drug of choice for any staphylococcal infection.
3.Dosage and Administration
